B.A.M. = (Business As Ministry)
What’s the best way to describe BAM? Well, here’s what it’s not:
- Tentmaking – Missions trips in which missionaries fund the ministry through setting up a temporary enterprise, that’s Business For Ministry
- Philanthropy – Foundational giving, charitable donations, or tithes and offerings from those who work in the “secular” environment, that’s Business With Ministry
- Business As Ministry – An enterprise which operates for the purpose of producing both monetary and ethical gain, informed by a theological framework.
Business as ministry presents a revised methodology for alleviating poverty. And, while it doesn’t negate the importance of charitable giving as well as traditional missions, it offers a unique way of affirming the work of the laity that the others do not.
